Patricia Sullivan

Patricia Sullivan is an historian of 20th century America, specializing in African American history, race, and politics. She has taught at the University of Virginia, Harvard University, and the University of South Carolina, where she is William Arthur Fairey II Professor of History. Her books include Lift Every Voice: The NAACP and the Making of the Civil Rights Movement; Days of Hope: Race and Democracy in the New Deal Era; Freedom Writer: Virginia Foster Durr, Letters from the Civil Rights Years, and Civil Rights in the United States, a two-volume encyclopedia, coedited with Waldo E. Martin Jr. Together with Waldo Martin, she is editor of the John Hope Franklin Series in African American History and Culture, published by the University of North Carolina Press.
