I am convinced that what created modern relativity is the Scientific Revolution and not the Reformation.  When scientists stopped asking Aristotelian questions about Nature in favor of more modest ones about how Nature works—How questions rather than Why questions—they made great progress but necessarily left what Man really cares about out of the equation.  You cannot weigh and measure what Man cares about.
